Photography expresses through the artist and the artist expresses it through photography.

If you really think about it, there are no specified rules and regulations that one has to follow in order to become a photographer. You might see a certain scenery from your point of view while another might see it differently; it all comes down to your creativity and artistic strength.

With this being said, it should come as no surprise when we talk about the different strange and unusual photography types found. There are many different types, some known all around the world while others… not that much. However, one of the most exciting things about photography is that you have no limits.

Although you have the power to experiment the different types, it is always best to choose a particular niche and master in it. Let’s look at some of the weirdest, less known types of photography. Who knows, one of them might even catch your attention and you’ll be the next artistic legend!

Postmortem photography

If you don’t already know what postmortem photography is, you’re in for a ride.

When you take a picture of a group of people, you expect them to be alive, right? Well, in the case of postmortem photography is the complete opposite – they are dead. Postmortem photography, which was common during the 19th century, is a pretty creepy type of photography and it is guaranteed to give you the chills. Basically, due to the expensiveness of photography at the time, people didn’t take pictures during their time on earth. The only chance they had was, unfortunately, when they were dead.

Sadly, most postmortem photographs were of children because of the high infant mortality. The children were dressed up and sometimes even carried by their mothers. Although the pictures looked like the children were taking a nap, but it had a much deeper backstory than that.

Grownups, on the other hand, were supported by other things. However, no matter how much they tried to make the corpse look alive, the eyes always gave it away.

Of course, nowadays it is not that common, given almost everyone has a camera in their hands. However, if it interests you, you can always study this creepy photography style yourself!

Spirit photography

Also known as ghost photography, we’re about to get into another creepy photography type.

Let’s imagine a scenario together to see if this is the one for you. You grab your camera one night, and start taking pictures of your friends left and right. The next day, you decide to take a look at the pictures because one of them can’t stop nagging and want to post one on social media. You start browsing with a smile on your face, however, suddenly your smile fades away only because you see a large, black human-like figure hovering on top of your friend. You think to yourself “It’s just the lighting, I don’t believe in ghosts.” However, in the next picture, the human-like shape is getting closer.

If this scenario weakened your legs a little and made your heart pound a bit harder, you might rethink about getting into spirit photography. However, if you got excited and want to hear more, haunted buildings are waiting for you!

Macro photography

Okay, enough creepy photography types, let’s talk about one that doesn’t give us chills throughout our body!

Macro photography is simply the art of making things look much bigger than they already are – Macro. With it, you’ll be fascinated with the details of any object going under the lens. Although capturing macro images needs some extra equipment such as a macro lens. However, trust me when I say it is worth it! You can work on anything, animals, plants, even the smallest insect you can find.

Seeing details that the naked eye can’t see might sound exciting, but is not always easy, especially for beginners.

If you are interested about finding more types, Image Coast has got it covered. Check out our blogs and don’t forget to enjoy!
